So Ciara and I decided to do a quick video last night for the "It gets better" campaign. This cause was brought to our attention by Perez Hilton. A lot of gay, bisexual, transgendered teens experience a lot of hardships in high school. Whether its being bullied or just trying to fit in, it can be tough out there. We just wanted to encourage teens and all people with this message. IT GETS BETTER!

A lot of people don't realize that I'm Latina, which is fine. One thing about being Latina is that there isn't one look that comes with the territory. I don't expect people to know my cultural background just by glancing at me. I do, however, expect that when I tell people my family is from Puerto Rico, that I will be believed and not accused of trying to be something that I'm not. It usually goes something like this: a person having a conversation with me discovers one way or another that I'm Puerto Rican and fluent in Spanish. That person then expresses their shock over these realizations for any number of reasons--common responses are, "You don't look Latina" and "I thought you were black!" I never said I wasn't black. And since when does being black and being Latina have to be mutually exclusive?
In my experience, people tend to have an uninformed and rather narrow view of what it means to be Puerto Rican. For me, not looking like some people's idea of a typical Latina has been challenging and often painful. I constantly find myself trying to justify who I am, and why should I? I'm proud of my heritage and my family. Both of my parents are from Puerto Rico. They raised two kids in Brooklyn and later in New Jersey, where we ate arroz con gandules and pasteles and listened to salsa music. I feel just as at home in Puerto Rico, where I still have tons of family, including aunts, uncles and cousins. Puerto Rico is in my blood. And that has nothing to do with the color of my skin.

I AM LA LA VAZQUEZ. TODAY IS WORLD AIDS DAY. HIV/AIDS IS THE #1 KILLER OF AFRICAN AMERICAN AND LATINA WOMEN IN MY AGE GROUP. PLEASE GET TESTED, YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT
It amazes me that even in this day and age, a lot of us still have the mentality that HIV/AIDS can't happen to us. Yeah, we may know someone who had it, heard of someone who died from it, but never us. We will never get it. It wasn't even a week ago that someone told me, HIV/AIDS only happens in the gay community. It was at that moment that I realized how uneducated some of us are when it comes to this deadly disease. We all need to take a moment and WAKE UP!
HIV/AIDS is spreading at an alarming rate and only we can stop it. We can educate ourselves, educate others, spread the word, stay protected, and most importantly GET TESTED.
HIV/AIDS doesn't care how you look. How pretty you are, how handsome you may be, it can happen to you. People also tend to believe that if a person looks good and is well groomed then they can't have HIV/AIDS.
WRONG AGAIN.
So Melo and I recently took Kiyan to the zoo. Mel decided he wanted an up close and personal interaction with the lions and tigers. I was TOTALLY against it. Check out these pictures! Please tell me if this is TOOOO close for you?? Was i being paranoid? And yes Kiyan had his Halloween costume on again! LOL
Saturday night while I was in Vegas I went to Justin Timberlake's concert. Wow he is an incredible performer! So many people came through and performed...Snoop, Alicia Keys, TLC, Taylor Swift, Timbaland, and of course Ciara. The show was absolutely amazing. Check out Ciara's performance!
Please come out and support finding a cure for breast cancer. This is a great cause and DJ Eque is a friend of mine. Shout out to The Honey Collective for putting this together.

Since Kiyan wanted to put his costume on, I decided to take him to the pumpkin patch over the weekend! We had a blast. So many pumpkins to choose from and so much fun stuff to do. As you can see Kiyan is Captain America. I love the muscles in his shirt! LOL. Later that evening we carved our pumpkin and put a candle inside. Fun times!

So my dad, Sam, came to Los Angeles this weekend to visit myself, Kiyan, and Mel. We had such a good time, hanging out, eating junk food (I knowwww!), and watching football games. My dad is a such a fun person to be around. He spends all day cracking jokes, and just enjoying life. He also gives me the best advice. I really believe I get my outgoing and spontaneous personality from him. He used to be on the radio too when he was younger. I don't get to see him as often as I would like though. He's an international flight attendant and is always traveling the world, but when we do catch up we always make the best of it. So big shouts to my DAD, I love you! I had a blast with you this weekend!
P.S. Dad wants all the ladies to know he's single! LOL
Michael Jordan held a basketball camp in Santa Barbara so Kiyan and Mel went to visit. I was working on Season 2 of Ray J, so I missed out on the trip.. (sad face) Everyone had a blast and there were tons of kids there. The funniest thing about all these pictures is no one ever told MJ to look up at the camera. LOL so here's Kiyan and MJ, even though you can't really see his face! FUN TIMES!
Click "view all pics" to see a bonus pic of Kiyan and MJ!
Just wanted to take a moment to send my thoughts, love, and prayers to all the families of 9/11. You will always be remembered. Your courage and bravery shines through. May God continue to be with you all during this time.
First day of school! Wow it was so exciting! I think more for me than him. LOL. Kiyan's only two but I thought it was a perfect time to get him in a school setting to socialize, learn to share, communicate better, and things like that. I stayed with him the whole time since it was his first day. Believe me he was not paying me any attention! He got so comfortable he took his clothes off outside! Too funny. I know alot of you parents out there can relate to this moment. and NO I didnt cry! LOL..Mel keeps saying this isn't REAL school since he's so young but it felt super real to me!
Most of us as kids had dreams of what we wanted to be when "we grow up." Mine was a veterinarian. It is all I ever thought about. It was my passion. Animals and the ocean always fascinated me. Then life happens, takes its turns and things don't always go as we planned as kids. Nevertheless, there has always been a special place in my heart for animals which leads me to my blog today.
I wanted to bring attention to a dirty little secret in Japan that was recently exposed in a documentary called "The Cove." In a fishing village called Taiji, thousands of dolphins are driven into a cove each year. The dolphins are slaughtered, their throats are slashed, and they are speared to death. Some of the dolphins are even sold to use in dolphin shows and dolphin swim programs.
I had never in my life seen such a barbaric way of humans killing animals. And what makes this all even worse is the Japanese government recently introduced dolphin/whale meat to childrens schools, even though the meat is high in mercury and is extremely toxic. The Japanese government did not even warn the Japanese people of the danger of eating this meat. The people of Japan deserve to know whats going on as it affects their families and children. The Japanese government also said it views dolphins as pests whose numbers need to be controlled. Unbelievable.

So I haven't read a really good, fun, interesting book in awhile. Any suggestions?
I think I'm going to start reading Steve Harvey's book, Act Like A Lady, Think Like a Man. I've heard some great things about the book. Has anyone read it? Any secrets or tips I should know? LOL..I love Steve Harvey, we actually used to work on the same radio station in Los Angeles, KKBT-fm. He's such a fun person but also the type who is willing to sit you down and give you sound advice. So here goes to some good reading!
If you've read it please share your thoughts!
