I AM LA LA VAZQUEZ. TODAY IS WORLD AIDS DAY. HIV/AIDS IS THE #1 KILLER OF AFRICAN AMERICAN AND LATINA WOMEN IN MY AGE GROUP. PLEASE GET TESTED, YOUR LIFE DEPENDS ON IT
It amazes me that even in this day and age, a lot of us still have the mentality that HIV/AIDS can't happen to us. Yeah, we may know someone who had it, heard of someone who died from it, but never us. We will never get it. It wasn't even a week ago that someone told me, HIV/AIDS only happens in the gay community. It was at that moment that I realized how uneducated some of us are when it comes to this deadly disease. We all need to take a moment and WAKE UP!
HIV/AIDS is spreading at an alarming rate and only we can stop it. We can educate ourselves, educate others, spread the word, stay protected, and most importantly GET TESTED.
HIV/AIDS doesn't care how you look. How pretty you are, how handsome you may be, it can happen to you. People also tend to believe that if a person looks good and is well groomed then they can't have HIV/AIDS.
WRONG AGAIN.
Don't be deceived because the most attractive people are walking around with the disease and you would never know by looking at them.
I ask all of you to please take this message seriously. We have only one life and we should treasure it not only today but everyday.
Communicate with your sexual partners about your histories. Talk to your friends and family and encourage them to get tested. Help me spread the word.
I want you to share your thoughts with me about how this disease has affected you.
Thank you for reading.
Love,
La La

That is so true. It is a shame how many people come to realize how much of a threat HIV/AIDS is when it is too late. I think we should have a mandetory class on the subject in high school and on our college campuses. Ignorance is one of the biggest enemies in my opinion. We have to make it real to our young communities.
LaLa couldn't have said it any better. Spread the Word get tested! It's important.
