Alani (La La) Anthony was born in Brooklyn, NY to Puerto Rican parents. She began her entertainment career in radio at the age of 16, in Atlanta’s Hot 97 station. After a short internship stint at that station, and while still in High School, she was given her own show, the wildly popular Future Flavas, alongside rapper/actor Ludacris.
La La recently starred in VH1’s highly rated show, “La La’s Full Court Life”. The show followed her as she made the move back to NYC after her husband, Carmelo Anthony, was traded to the New York Knicks. Viewers got to see her juggle her busy acting and television career as well as being a wife and a mom. This past October La La starred in the Off Broadway production of “Love Loss and What I Wore”.
Anthony will soon be seen in the film, “Think like a Man”, which is based on Steve Harvey’s popular book, “Act Like a Lady, Think Like a Man!” She stars alongside Gabrielle Union and Taraji P. Henson.
Last year, La La starred in and executive produced one of VH1’s highest rated shows, entitled “La La’s Full Court Wedding”. The show chronicled the time leading up to La’s wedding to basketball star Carmelo Anthony.
Upon graduating from high school, La briefly left Hot 97 to attend Howard University. At 19, she got an offer from LA’s 92.3 The Beat to co-host her own radio show, the B-Syde. Much like Atlanta’s Hot 97, 92.3 was one of the top market stations in the country, and once again La proved that she was a force to be reckoned with on the airways. After yet another successful run on the radio, MTV took notice and came calling next. La left 92.3 in 2001 and joined the MTV family. Although she had no previous on-TV experience, La quickly proved that she was ready to take on any challenge that came her way. No stranger to doing high profile interviews during her days on radio, La instantly became the network’s premiere talent and went on to co-host two of their most popular shows, “Direct Effect,” and “TRL.”
During her time at MTV, she completed a countless number of high profile interviews, including Brad Pitt, Tom Cruise, Will Smith, and Angelina Jolie, among others.
At the height of her career at MTV, La decided to leave the network to embark on the next step of her career. She launched her own production company Krossover Productions in 2003 and was a producer on Mike Tyson’s critically acclaimed documentary, “Tyson.” Directed by Academy and Golden Globe nominated writer/director James Toback, “Tyson” was named the winner of the Regard Knockout Award in France and debuted to a standing ovation in 2009’s Cannes Film Festival.
La continues to expand her career in all areas. She recently inked production deals with VH1, Russell Simmons’s Simmons-Lathan production, and 51 Minds. Because of her likability and girl next door appeal, La continues to be an on demand on-air talent. 51 Minds have called on her for a number of their projects, including “Charm School,” “Flavor of Love,” “I Love New York,” etc. She produced a feature film with director/producer Brett Ratner, and a starring role in “The Gun,” alongside Val Kilmer and 50 Cent.
Always up for a challenge, La has set forth on a path that will undoubtedly lead to more success. She currently resides in LA and New York with her husband and son.
